Cane flute

The cane flute is a vibration aerophone instrument (its sound is produced by the vibration from an air column inside the instrument). It is made from reed or cane, with 6 holes, and near the mouthpiece a seventh hole with square shape. Shapes and sizes are variable, depending on the artisan, due to it is an entertainment instrument mostly. According to musicologist María de Baratta, El Salvador's indigenous artistics expressions are closely related to nature. They had a close relation with Earth and mountains forest, and this relationship gave birth to many musical expressions. That is why the cane flute melody try to express the people's feeling and their mood. Each group has a particular melody and this has a lot to do with their people, their traditions and customs.
