June 22 - The Day of Memory and Sorrow

Today, on June 22 Russia meets the Day of Memory and Sorrow. 79 years ago on June 22, 1941 was the day the Great Patriotic war begun.
It is the day of sorrow, mourning and honor toward everybody who gave their lives for the victory. We mourn over everyone sacrificed their lives for the sake of our motherland through these cruel years of war.

People of Russia honor the died with chimes and a moment of silence. Multiple patriotic events and actions are held on this day around the country. All-Russia action “Minuta Molchaniya” (Minute of Silence) will take place on June 22, 2020, at 14.15 local time.
Candle of Memory is an international memorial action taking place annually since 2009 as an eve of the Day of Memory and Sorrow. On this day people light candles in honor of 27 million people died and gave their lives on battleground for their country during the Great Patriotic war.
All-Russia project “Deti Voyny” (War Children) is an action, on which the succession tells us stories about their relatives, who faced the war being a child.
