Chilean Guitarron

The Chilean Guitarrón is a chordophone instrument that has 25 strings. Although its name may suggest that it is an instrument derived from the guitar, its design, tuning and way of performing resembles more to the Renaissance and Baroque chordophones. It corresponds to one of the most representative instruments of the Chilean musical tradition, and it has a close relation with the Song to the human and to the Divine (songs of religious content interpreted in tenths), but it also serves as an interpreter of “cuecas”, “tonadas”, waltzes and polkas.
