The accordion

The accordion, popularly called “sanfona" in Brazil, is an aerophone musical instrument of native origin, composed of a “fole”, free pallets and two wooden harmonic reeds. It is a key instrument. The first accordion that arrived to Brazil was called "concertina", and it became popular mainly in north east, west-central and southern part of Brazil. The first genres (“fado”, waltzes, polkas, “bugiu”, “caijun”, etc.) portrayed the folklore of the Portuguese, German, Italian, French and Spanish immigrants.
