Quijonguero

Quijonguero – a traditional musical instrument in Costa Rica. In relation to the instrument, it is important to mention that there were three Quijongueros teachers: Eulalio Guadamuz, Isidoro Guadamuz and Felipe Quirós., who passed away a few years ago. The instrument is of African heritage, which possibly arrived with the first Africans during the conquest. It consists of a cane from the "guacimo ternerero" tree, a wire that works as a rope, a "jícara" that functions as a resonator, a "pulsador" (wooden stick) and, in some cases, a sounding board is used.
