On October 30-31, 2020 will be the All-Russia Festival of Sesens. This year it will be held online. Festival participation will include storytellers from different regions of Russia and other countries: sesens from Bashkortostan, Russia, akyns and manaschys from Kyrgyzstan, djangarchys from the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, ashugys from Armenia, kaichys from the Republic of Altay, Russia, olonkhosuts from the Republic of Sakha Yakutia, Russian epic performers, performers of mugama, kyui (musical subgenres of storytelling) and other genres of folklore.
The Republic of Bashkortostan will be represented by winners of the Republican sesen contests and Interregional “Yirau” Contest. Geographically participants are from 11 regions of Russia.
On October 30 in the context of the festival there will be held the applied research conference “Folk culture in the modern world: traditions, storytelling and ritual” with participation of scholars from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Turkmenistan and 7 regions of Russia including Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. The event is dedicated to the VI CIOFF® World Folkloriada in Russia in 2021.
The project has following aims: popularization of folk art, its development and popularization of the epic genre of the peoples in Russia; search and establishment of relations between domestic and foreign storytellers; introduction of the international culture and traditions of Bashkortostan, Russia and other countries.
The event is organized by the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Republican Center of Folk Arts, the Autonomous non-commercial organization Sesen's Center of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
